Have you dared to live your wildest fantasy? Then meet a character in the following fantasy book who lives out many dreams.
Prologue
Does the tantalizing taste of a cappuccino stir your taste buds? Have you ever wondered what the perfect cappuccino tastes like? Oh, how wonderful life can be. There are so many things to experience. Our five senses shape reality, sending signals to our brain, which interprets all these sensations.
Have you ever wondered what life would be like without one of your senses? Persons, who have had the misfortune of losing either their sight or hearing, know how hard it’s to adjust. Then of course, sometimes, it could be soothing not to have to hear that nagging person all the time. Without our sight, how would anyone ever be able to describe a beautiful masterpiece? Without our hearing, how would anyone be able to experience the sweet voice of a female country singer? No amount of money could ever replace these wonderful experiences, now could it? Sometimes we fantasize about certain things in life, when life itself is really the greatest gift of all. Do you appreciate this great gift? Sure we all dream of that big mansion, or perhaps that beautiful Ferrari, or maybe that dream vacation. These pleasant thoughts make us feel so good inside. On the other hand, certain individuals inspire to achieve a record, such as being the fastest person on the planet or winning a Nobel Peace Prize for curing some horrid disease.
We all fantasize about different things during our lives. What would be your greatest fantasy? Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just snap our fingers and have any wish granted? It would be like having a genie in a bottle granting you three wishes. Would you request infinite more wishes, as one of your wishes? This would be truly wonderful. A pot of money, eternal youth, great power, sounds like fun, right? What if I told you this is exactly what happened to me. Do you believe me?
One day I was hiking along a riverbed, when I spotted a shiny object protruding slightly from the water’s surface. Being intrigued, I stepped forward to have a closer look. It was rather odd looking, almost mystifying. It was some sort of glass ornament with an intricate design. Curiosity got the best of me, so I reached into the cold water and pulled out a glass container. I examined it carefully, and was intent on keeping it, since I found it to be quite fascinating. It was opaque, not allowing me to see if anything lay inside. Then it hit me. What if someone had sent a message inside a time capsule? Eagerly, I proceeded to remove the cork with my right hand. I was careful not to damage my new possession. Finally, I uncorked the container and took a peek inside. Much to my chagrin, it was empty. I was just about to return the cork when a foggy mist appeared from within. Baffled, I placed the glass container down, stepped back, and watched the transformation. This was something right out of the movies. I rubbed my eyes to make sure that I wasn’t daydreaming. Sure enough a real live genie stood before me. With a huge grin, he beckoned me. “Thanks for liberating me. As a token of my gratitude, I would like to repay you.” I stood in awe. “I will grant you three wishes. However, there are a few stipulations.” I nodded and listened attentively. “Firstly, once you make the wishes, you can never retract them. Secondly, you can’t make any wishes causing harm to others. Thirdly, no matter how these wishes affect your present life you shall bear the consequences. Lastly, you may never again see any persons once they’re deceased. It’s your decision whether you want to make these wishes or not. Now, which shall it be?”
The temptation was too great. I responded “yes”, and that’s how I was given my three wishes. My first wish was to live for eternity. For my second wish, I chose to be unaffected by disease or any other thing in the universe that could harm me. And finally for my third wish, I chose to be able to live out any fantasy that I desired.
This all sounds really great on the surface, now doesn’t it? I would live healthily for eternity, remaining untouchable, and having anything that I desired to boot. After experiencing so many things over eighteen billion years, nothing excites me anymore. Everything seems so bland. Nothing even seems real anymore, so much so, that I feel that my life has lost all meaning. I will never see my departed loved ones anymore. And I’m unsure of how, assuming it’s even possible, to undo these three wishes. I feel so selfish for thinking about my best interest and not considering anyone else. My guilt consumes me on a daily basis. I could have at least wished for all diseases to be eradicated, or world famine to be eliminated, or something else benefitting all mankind. I guess it’s fitting that I’m paying a terrible price. Now I am trapped inside my own body, and there’s no means of escape. My life has become a real nightmare. Which demon invoked me in placing this horrible curse upon myself? Good God, what shall I do? Is there anyone out there that can help me with my predicament?
